I am great at planning and rechecking information with other people. I like dealing with people and making new connections with places and people I would never think to meet.

What if
Do you ever look for something but find it in the wrong place, because I have. It was a year ago; a stressful time for me with much to do. After getting through a rough month of schoolwork and roommate issues, I finally had the time to go home for thanksgiving. All of my friends were making the journey back and the only thing on my mind was seeing them. I had been looking forward to this break for a long time and wanted to rush there as soon as I could. When my last class broke for extended weekend, I packed up all my clothes up, took one last look at my room and ran to my car.
As I started the car and went through my normal routine, I thought to myself. What if I take the long way back home? What if I take my time? I could not find an answer. A minute beforehand I could have given myself a number of reasons to take the short route, but now they were gone. I put in my new CD, drove along my way, and noticed something I would have completely missed otherwise. I noticed the color of the leaves, a collide-a-scope of sunshine gleaming through the clouds, and the smell of fresh country air. I noticed the ups and downs in the road, as if the hills were saying welcoming me home. With my music playing in the background, I noticed one other thing, the smile on my face and the joy in my heart. After I realized all this, I asked myself one more question. How could this all have come from just a question?
The Point: What if I take my time?

The difference in a few steps
Word Count = 95
On the other hand, one class led me down a path of destruction for a subject. The class was honors chemistry; I had transferred into the class from on-level because I wanted a better educational experience. I had walked into something that I could not handle, this mostly coming from me not being able to live up to my older sister’s expertise in the subject. The teacher, also did not involve the students, she did not give a reason for the students to achieve. We were there for the grade, for the acceptance of some checkmark on some form.
Word Count = 99

Enlightenment
To me, there has always been this process. It has surrounded my whole life. I have striven for it at points, and looked away from it at others. I have studied history to understand why, yet I only receive questions in return. I have always looked towards the future but remembering back on these experiences brings me joy. There are points where I can feel overwhelmed but I always see that as a new barrier being reached. Some people spend their whole life involved in one subject; I try to look through them all. Sometimes the pain can take away from what was gained but it is always worth it in the end. There is a simple pleasure in life. The simple pleasure that has been passed through stories for ages, it is learning. The process that involves the human experience, the human spark of intelligence, and this I believe.

The "Over" Generation
My generation should be the “over” generation because of what my generation has surrounding them. The generation is almost over-informed about every topic, many problems are over-emphasized. New types of
Lingo over-simplify complex phrases and words so that many do not even understand the pure meaning behind the original phrase. Compared against older standards, many are over-empathetic. There is also a new idea of overwriting older standards of many parts of life and there is such a large bond that many share in this generation that helps us all to connect.

Was, is, and will be Jimmie Cone
The focal point of an old town, it is the ice cream shop that gathered the whole town on those hot summer nights. Jimmie Cone has gathered people from all around, well known throughout many parts of Maryland; it is an establishment that has kept the town of Damascus alive. Jimmie Cone is an outdoor ice cream parlor. There were many simple treats created that have ogled children for ages, and many others that have pleasantly filled their bellies. Jimmie Cone, however, is more than just an ice cream parlor; it was one of the few social gathering points for many in the area.
There have been many conversations at the worn bench that fill the mulch lot at Jimmie Cone, the brick mural reminding many of a different time. The pride of a small town building from just one establishment, it has helped to keep an older system of development for growing children. It has helped children to learn of their peers, of adults to relax with neighbors, and everyone to share the stories that have filled Damascus. Jimmie Cone has also brought a sense of change to those of Damascus who understand the changing times. With suburbs, new developments, multinational corporations, and progress moving throughout the area, there seems to be only one constant. There have been many changes throughout the surrounding area, that Jimmie Cone has helped many to just sit, relax, and enjoy what has kept alive the spirit of Damascus.
